Ravelympics 2010

Anyone on Ravelry knows what the Ravelympics are. For those few of those not on Rav, I’ll tell you. It’s a friendly competition against yourself where you set some challenging knitting goals that you complete during the duration of the Winter Olympics. It’s fun, it’s free, and there are only a few rules. I love it.

There are a lot more events this time around than the Summer Olympics two years ago.  There are also a few neat features that were added since last time as well. One of them is the teams and the finish line and the live coverage. All are neat, and  all take precious time away from my knitting. Lots of inspiration going on over at Ravelympics.

It’s not too late to join, though you only have roughly six days to compete. I’m starting to feel a little heat here since I have a pair of socks to knit and 2 pair of charity socks to finish in this time frame. I don't’ know if I can do it….I’ll let you know next week!

I’ve already finished most of my goals. I knitted 3 hats for charity. These are child sized, 6-10 yrs old, worsted weight on size 4 needles.

The orange hat is Red Heart, the other 2 are Simply Soft. These went pretty quickly.

I also finished a WIP. My last pair of socks that I started in October, Sunday Swing. I made one sock and the other just languished and hung around. Well, now it’s done!

One thing I learned. Don’t let the second sock sit around that long. It gets mad. It wants to be finished. And when it is done…well. Let’s just say one sock fits me, the other one fits my nine yr old daughter. Too bad. The pattern is easy and pretty quick, very easy to memorize. The yarn is Alpaca Sox.

This is the All Shawl. My first Ravelympic project. It was crocheted in 2 days on a size N hook using Sensations Rainbow Boucle in Green Shimmer. I didn’t have enough yarn to finish the edging. I think I did 3 rows of edging, but it still looks nice.

This was an impulse project. I found some green kool aid (Aldis Brand) and had this hank of yarn sitting around. I went for it! And look how it turned out:

I have to decide what to make with this yarn. I love how spring like it is. Perfect for this time of year!

What I’m finishing now is the 3rd pair of mittens for my charity mitten goal. This will take a few hours. Then I’ll get cracking on my socks. The pair for me is knitted on size 1 needles with a basic 3-1 Rib in LB gumdrop. I also need to finish 2 pair of charity socks using Wool Ease on size 4 needles. I might get done in time. Ok, gotta go burn up those needles!
