More Sock problems

As I was knitting my sock last night, I decided to try it on to see how far I should go before doing the heel.  I’m glad I tried it on when I did, but sorry I didn’t try it on earlier.

The sock is too small to fit over my heel. And it has huge ladders that are super duper ugly. I am a bit confused as to why this happened. I cast on 52 stitches on size 2 needles. Isn’t that what I used for my last sock, which fit me fine?

Hmm, so I guess it must be the pattern. The pattern I am working on is a chevron stitch. It has a k2tog, kyok (in one stitch) and then a ssk. So I’m thinking the k2tog and the ssk are pulling the sock in tighter, like a cable.

So I had to rip out my sock and redo it. Not tragic, but it made me a little angry over wasted time. Don’t tell me: swatch. I know, I could have saved some time in the long run, but not by much. I didn’t have too much more than a swatch anyway.

So now I cast on 66 sts on size 2 needles. I hope this won’t be too big. It won’t stretch too much either, I think and the ladders won’t be as noticeable. My heart lace socks should have been less stretchy but I conveniently forgot all about that.

I’m working on a girlfriend shrug for Olivia. She likes to dress nice and I think this would go good with a lot of her outfits. It’s knitted on size 2 needles using Bernat Baby Jacquards. It’s self striping and very pretty. I hope she gets lots of use out of it. It’s not quiet spring yet, so she should. If I feel really ambitious, I will make Rayne one as well. She tends to get chilled more than anyone else but she’s careless with her stuff. I don’t want to spend lots of time knitting her something only to see it tossed on the lawn!

I also discovered that I’m not that good at lace knitting. Working on the last 2 cowls have confirmed this for me. I guess not reading the pattern does contribute, but I still had to redo it several times to get it right. I’m still working on my turquoise cowl slowly but surely.

This is the first time in a few months that I had more than two projects going. I have three! I usually cast on and finish before I start another. This keeps the stash to manageable proportions and keeps me on track. Otherwise I go from WIP to WIP, without much getting done.

I went to the library. I love the library! You can rent movies for super cheap and non-fiction DVD’s are free! How awesome is that? I bring this up because I am on a quest to get healthy and drop some weight. I need to lose several  lbs to be at a healthy weight. My kids are young, and I don’t have the energy or desire to do anything active with them. It’s sad when I don’t want to go to the beach, the waterpark, the park, anywhere. Plus being self-conscious if I look fat all the time. Reminds me of a joke:

A woman asks her husband if her pants make her look fat. He looks at her deadpan and says “it’s not your pants that make you look fat. Your ass makes you look fat.”

Sorry if I offended anyone, but I though this joke was hilarious. Because it’s so true, for me anyway. I try to avoid mirrors because of it.

Anyway, back to the library. I was in the “diet” section. I did not know so many diets even existed. I could have spent hours looking for the right one, but I just grabbed a few. I know what I need to do. I mostly did it for the low cal recipes since I’m having a hard time with that.

And I checked out a few exercise videos. I need to get my butt moving if I’m going to lose some of this fat. My knees hurt sometimes, so I got a walking video and another one that supposedly feeds the muscle and loses the fat by Kathy Smith. I’ll let you know how that goes since I checked the book out too.

Well, I’ve been thinking of starting a contest. I love all the comments contests around and want some more traffic to my blog. I don’t know how many people even read this stuff, but I’d like to get more.

The kickoff is going to be March 17. Why? Because two of my kids share that birthday and it gives me time to do some planning. Yes, my “bookends”, the oldest and youngest, will be 16 and 1.  So stay tuned, tell your friends, and leave me lots of comments!

Oh, I never swatch either, so don't feel bad!

Can't wait to see the contest!

I'll be sure to announce your contest... you know how I love contests, giving them and playing them too.

You can do the weight loss thing, one day at a time.

I never swatch for socks. Actually, I've only swatched 2 items. The CuldeSac Vest and my Tomato Sweater. The chevron socks don't stretch much, so that was why they didn't fit. Good thing you caught it early!

I did do the boot camp exercise class last week. I was fine until Friday. I've noticed, that I always feel worse 2 days after a extensive workout. Sitting & getting up were the worst. Ouch! Ouch! Ouch! Going back tonight though.

OOOOOOOh, sounds like a lot of fun. I hope your socks are working out better this time 'round (and 'round, hahahahaha!).

Hope your sock works out the second time. I had to frog my pink socks because it didn't fit, knitting on itty bitty needles does make it feel like so much time wasted.

Wow, both kids share the same birthday? What are the chances of that happening? My DD turns the Big Oh Four that day.

I think you'd be surprised at how many readers you have who don't comment. I know I have way more visitors than commenters on my blog.
