Hello Kitty!

First let me say that I can’t stand Hello  Kitty or anything to do with her. I remember Hello Kitty being the “in” thing when I was young. How did it come back around again? Yuck.  I didn’t like her then, and I especially don’t now. Why? I have no idea. Maybe it’s the vacant looking eyes and the cute bow that seems so innocent. I guess I’m just not a fan of Japanese cartoons.

So knowing this, I want you to appreciate how much I love my daughter:

Because she LOVES Hello Kitty.  She got Hello Kitty stuff for the holidays. I even bought her a coloring book. She had to tell me where to put the bow and the ears, and picked out the color for the nose. See, I have no idea.

This was a quick knit, except for all the seaming. The ears are actually 4 pieces sewn together. The bow is made from 2 pieces. Then when that’s all done, you have to sew them on the hat. The hat itself was very easy. I used Lion Brand Jiffy and size 8 needles. The bow is Satin Sport, and the nose is cotton. The eyes and whiskers are black acrylic.

And another thing I learned was how to embroider. I had no idea and failed on other attempts. After scrutinizing the pics on Ravelry, I discovered that the nose and eyes were just pretty much back and forth. I think it turned out ok. I’m not a master or anything, but the girl loves her Hello Kitty hat. And I enjoyed making it!

I also finished another this weekend. It was the Who? hat from the Rav group Hat of the Month. I wasn’t going to make it, but I decided to since the other projects looked interesting. And it’s cute.

I only added eyes on one of the owls since that’s what mostly everyone else did, and I’m lazy.

A close up of the owl cable. This hat was quick and fun to make, though it turned out big.  It’s more of a bucket type than form fitting. But I like it. The actual color is the hat on top. I used Berella 4 and size 5 needles.

I also finished a few more dishcloths.

Holiday Bells (Ravelry link) by Sue Schafer of Harvest Moon.

Holly Design from Dishcloth Boutique. It’s on page 3 of the site.

On both of these I used I love this cotton! and size 6 needles. The top cloth is actually red, but for some reason it came out pink.

We all survived the brutal cold from the North Pole. It was negative 19 here! On Saturday it got into the 20’s, so it felt balmy and warm, LOL.

I finished my flip top mittens and mailed them off. I’m working on hat #4 for my 52 hat challenge. It’s going to be a baby hat in sock weight. The first row took forever. We’ll see how the rest of it goes.

Off to do more knitting. I still have to finish one more cloth for an exchange and work on my mini purse for the mini purse swap. Still lots to do to keep me busy in this freezing cold yucky weather.
